Why a patient who had just undergone asymmetric eyes surgery was brought back to the OR?
Hello. I am Dr. Nk Park, director of Noonopi Clinic.
Excessively raising your eyebrows to open your eyes can lead to deep forehead wrinkles or asymmetrical eyebrow height. People often get forehead Botox injections for this reason. However, the root cause is usually uneven eyebrows or ptosis.
Today's topic is the story of a man in his 30s from Washington who felt uncomfortable raising his eyebrows. He had worn contact lenses for a long time, but five years ago, the ptosis in his right eye worsened. This made him sleepy eyes and caused stress due to the asymmetry in his eyebrow height.
After consulting with a doctor, he decided to undergo with Noonopi Plastic Surgery Korea.
The surgery seemed to go well in the morning, but... I ended up taking him back to the operating theater from the recovery room.
What exactly happened?
Asymmetric Brow? The Cause is Droopy Eyes!

The more severe the sleepy eyes (ptosis), the more one tends to raise their eyebrows and use forehead muscles to see clearly.
When I consulted him, his right pupil was significantly covered by the eyelid, giving him a tired and sleepy appearance. Upon closer inspection, I found an interesting habit:
- Symptom: To compensate for the right eye not opening properly, he was unconsciously lifting his right eyebrow forcefully.
- Diagnosis: This is a common symptom for ptosis patients.
I explained,
"Once we correct the eyelid muscles so you can open your eyes clearly, your habit of using your forehead will likely disappear, and your brow height will become symmetrical."
[Noonopi Clinic's Plan]
- Male Ptosis Correction: Designed a 4mm natural inline fold (average for men) to ensure a masculine look, avoiding any "greasy" or overly deep double eyelids.
- Lower Blepharoplasty: Performed simultaneously to improve the tired-looking eye bags and hollowness (per patient's request).

Then, during the double eyelid surgery, we checked the shape while seated.
The "Ok" in the OR vs. The "Problem" in Recovery

Even senior surgeons find it difficult to correct asymmetric eyes. To match eye size, variables such as swelling from local anesthesia, minor bleeding, and how well the patient opens their eyes during surgery should all be considered.
Fortunately, the surgery wrapped up as planned. The double eyelid line was crisp, and the lower blepharoplasty was clean.
However, as I was doing the final check in the recovery room before his discharge, I spotted a tiny issue. Even accounting for post-op swelling, the exposure of the left pupil was visibly smaller than the right.
Usually, it is common to judge this as "swelling that will go down." As I mentioned, blepharoptosis surgery has many variables. But this case felt different.
Thankfully, the patient had minimal swelling and was cooperative when I asked him to open his eyes. This allowed me to check the symmetry more accurately than usual, even though it was immediately after surgery. I was convinced: The left eye was a case of slight 'Under-correction.'
Golden Time for Revision: "Right Now."
"Let's go back in. If we lift the left side just a little bit more, it will be perfect."
I didn't hesitate to propose an Immediate Revision. The patient must have been bewildered having just finished surgery, but after checking the mirror a few times, he trusted me and lay down on the operating table once again.
- Revision Process: I untied the ptosis correction threads that were secured at the medial and lateral limbus of the left eye. I then pulled the muscle slightly tighter and re-anchored it 2mm higher than the previous position.

I was able to complete the surgery after confirming that both pupils opened symmetrically.
Cost of Ptosis Surgery? "Tenacity" Matters More.

The next day, the patient came in for a check-up. He looked in the mirror and sighed with relief.
"Dr. Park, I'm so glad I listened to you yesterday. Both eyes match perfectly."
Many people search for ptosis surgery reviews or costs when looking for a clinic. While a reasonable price is important, the most critical factor in correcting asymmetric eyes is the surgeon's tenacity not to compromise on minute errors.

💡 Dr. Park’s Closing Thought
"Everyone has facial asymmetry. But if it becomes a shadow on your heart, medical science can help erase it."
